French architect Oualalou + Choi have launched renderings for its 115,000-seat stadium to be constructed close to Casablanca for the 2030 World Cup, which shall be hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
The Hassan II Stadium 1, set to be the second largest on the planet after the Narendra Modi cricket floor in Gujarat, shall be constructed within the city of Benslimane, 40km east of Casablanca.
Founding accomplice Tarik Oualalou stated his agency’s design of the “Grand Stade” was rooted in Moroccan tradition: specifically, the Moussem-style tent and the backyard.
He stated the idea was “a beneficiant house, open to the world and respectful to the character it protects. The Grand Stade de Casablanca is the embodiment of the good custom of Moroccan hospitality”.
The design hopes to be 45-60% extra energy-efficient than a typical stadium, whereas being sturdy sufficient to resist the photo voltaic publicity and excessive wind speeds of the area.
Oualalou + Choi, in affiliation with Kansas-based architect Populous, gained the design contract in March, beating rival bids by Herzog & de Meuron, Zaha Hadid Architects and Foster + Companions, amongst others.
Different consultants within the undertaking workforce embrace Maffeis Engineering of Italy and the UK’s Rider Levett Bucknall.
