Granite Building has inked an $88 million contract to enhance a stretch of winding, mountainous freeway in Southern California.
The Watsonville, California-based contractor introduced the award from the California DOT on Jan. 23 to make security enhancements on State Route 74 close to town of Lake Elsinore.
Undertaking funding comes from each state and federal sources, Granite stated within the information launch, and its scope contains widening the shoulders and roadway whereas making room for centerline and edge line rumble strips to enhance security on the two-lane street. The hassle goals to offer extra automobile buffer area.
The mission continues the contractor’s earlier work on the roadway. In 2020, Granite received a $39 million contract to widen shoulders and shore up curve elevations between Lake Elsinore and the Orange County line.
“We’ve been working intently with Caltrans on this freeway for a number of years, and we’re excited to proceed this partnership,” stated Invoice Moore, Granite’s vp of regional operations, within the launch. “It aligns with our strategic objective of increasing our footprint within the Inland Empire of Southern California.”
Also referred to as the Ortega Freeway, the total street stretches from I-5 on California’s Pacific Coast close to San Juan Capistrano to Palm Desert, California, within the state’s jap inside.
The part of the thoroughfare Granite will work on on this mission winds by the Santa Ana Mountains. The freeway traverses a hairpin flip that opens as much as views of Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, house to tens of 1000’s of commuters who roll down the hill day by day to jobs in Orange County.
Granite can even carry out resurfacing on the freeway, constructing on its previous work within the space. It expects to start building in April, with a projected completion date of November 2026.
